Create database user

It is now possible for application managers in the Ultimo customer portal to create, adjust and add their own database user for their BI Platform whenever it is included in the license.

Collection information

When Ultimo is setting up your database connection, they will start with asking for your external IP address. This can easily be retrieved by following the next steps:

  1. Open your browser and enter the following URL: https://www.whatismyip.com/

  2. After opening the website, you immediately see your external IP (my public IPv4) address.

We strongly advise to limit the amount of IP addresses. Use your data warehouse tool to give users access instead of giving a lot of users access directly to all your data in the Ultimo database.

Create a BI Platform database account.

  1. Go to the Ultimo Customer Portal. (https://portal.ultimo.net)

  2. On your Dashboard, you will find a tile labeled ‘BI Platform’; click on this tile.

  1. A new dashboard will be opened. Click on the tile labeled ‘Add PowerBI account’.

  1. Select the account/company for which you want to create a database account. For most users, only one option will be available. Click on ‘OK.’

  1. The Customer Portal will now verify whether you have an active ‘BI Platform’ module in your contract. If not, you will receive a message notifying you.

  1. In the next pop-up you must select the database you want to create an account for and the username. This username must be unique for that specific database. (You can use the same username for every environment you have.)

  1. When you click on ‘OK’ you will be forwarded to a new screen where you have to fill in some extra information for the database account.

  1. First you have to fill in the ‘E-mail contact person’ field, this e-mail address will be used for multiple things like notifying you when you successfully created a database account or when your password is about to expire.

  2. Now add an IP address/range, click on the button ‘Add IP’. You will now get a question if you want an IP range or a single IP address. In case you want to add a range, please click ‘Yes’. If you want to add a single IP address, please click ‘No’.

  1. If you click on ‘Yes’ for a range, you first must fill in the starting IP address. The first 3 octets of the IP address will be the same of the ending IP address. So, you can only set a range based on the last octet of an IP address. This means you need to add multiple IP ranges in case you also have multiple ranges based on the third octet.

Single IP:

  1. After you successfully added a IP address/range, you will see these address(es) in the grid under the button.

  1. When you added all the IP addresses you want to enable access for, you can click on the button ‘Create database user’ to create the database account. If this is successful, you will get a pop-up with your password. This password is randomly generated and is not saved in the Customer Portal. This means you really need to write this down; otherwise you have to reset the password in case you forget this.

13. You will receive an e-mail once your database account has been successfully created. You can connect to the database by using the URL that is shown in the field ‘Server’, the username from the field ‘Database user’ and the password you got from the pop-up on step 12.

Extra information

  • The ‘Update database user’ button lets you update the IP address/range you configured for this database account. And it also allows you to update the e-mail of the contact person.

  • The ‘Reset password’ button allows you to reset the password of the database account. Your new password will be shown in the pop-up. Please write this down because it’s only specified once. This means you need to do a new reset of your password in case you forget your new password. Please wait 5 minutes for the reset password action to be processed on the database.

  • The ‘Delete database user’ button allows you to remove the database account from the database. You will have to specify the reason for removal, which will be registered in case there are any questions in the future about the removal of this database account. You can always reactivate the database account by pressing the ‘Reactivate database user’ button.
